Black Cladding For Interior

What types of wood do we use at Atelier TwentyOne?

Atelier TwentyOne offers a wide selection of woods to ensure that your dream aesthetic is achieved.

Scandinavian spruce

The spruce pine or Spruce originates from the cold countries of Europe, Eastern Europe or Scandinavia. It is a softwood but is durable and lightweight.

making it a good solution for many projects. It is also readily available in Europe, and affordable. Its colours range from a light yellow to cream white, and reddish-brown. The charred wood process allows us to enhance the colours of the wood or adapt it to different shades to make an impact.

Like Pine, Spruce can be used outdoors and indoors for siding, fencing, cladding, interiors, and paneling. As it is a softwood to ensure that it remains intact over the decades, it will need to be treated with a protective oil and maintained.

Siberian larch

Siberian larches are hardy trees that grow in extreme environments and stand up to the elements. Their forests extend from Siberia to Finland. It is one of the hardest softwoods on Earth.

The larch colours can range from a creamy yellow to light brown, which weathers to a beautiful silvery-grey if left untreated. With a charred wood application, you can further enhance the natural beauty of this knotty wood and choose from a range of beautiful finishes.

Larch is a robust wood, naturally resistant to severe weather which makes it a durable option for outside cladding, siding, fencing, and decking. This durability is increased by the charred wood process that makes larch fire, rot, insect, and mold resistant.

Thermo Pine

A versatile variety of wood and a popular choice, Pine is a great material for everything from Shou Sugi Ban Pine cladding and fencing through to outdoor furniture.

For fencing, Atelier TwentyOne uses Thermo Pine – a thermally modified Pine, where the wood is treated by high temperature to increase its durability. This leads to decreased moisture absorption making it more stable and less likely to degrade in the elements.

Douglas fir

Douglas fir originates from North America. Also called Oregon Pine, this conifer is a very well-known and high-quality softwood.

It is cost effective, easy to work with, and looks great. Douglas fir is distinguished by its reddish-brown heartwood, cream-colored sapwood, and darker-colored growth rings. When the Shou Sugi Ban process is applied, its cracked texture on the surface gives character and a dramatic grain.

When charred and brushed, Douglas fir is characterised by long, wide, and pronounced wood grain, which contributes to its premium appearance. Over time, the Douglas fir develops a magnificent patina. Its resistance to bad weather, mold and fungus makes it an ideal material for outdoor use like siding, fencing, decking, and cladding.

Accoya

Accoya is a high-performance and sustainable wood that lasts the test of time. Grown from the Pine Radiata wood species, Accoya has the distinction of being resistant and durable, even more so than tropical species such as Teak or Merbau.

It is harvested at around 30 years and is put through a modification process that makes it more durable. This process contains no toxic substances and instead enhances natural elements of the wood. This modification makes the wood extremely durable, in fact Accoya wood is one of the few woods to have a class 1 durability rating.Accoya wood is resistant to fungus, insects, and mold, and is very stable meaning it won’t warp and rot over time.

When layered on with our Shou Sugi Ban process, the Accoya becomes even more durable to the environment making it perfect for cladding, decking, and furniture. The burnt wood process also enhances the beauty of the Accoya wood, bringing out its rich colours. You will also be able to choose the finish that suits you best: charred, brushed and oiled or deep charred and oiled.
