Allplans Project, Cracow
The project
For this residential project, the facade is a refined composition of two complementary wood types: charred Douglas Fir, treated using our controlled flame technique to achieve a deep, matte black finish with subtle texture, and Scandinavian Spruce, oiled in a warm hazelnut tone.
The interplay between the two creates a dynamic yet balanced visual rhythm, bringing both contrast and cohesion to the architecture. Both timber claddings are installed using an open-joint rainscreen system, allowing for proper ventilation and longevity. This method not only enhances the aesthetic precision of the facade but also improves its durability and performance in Poland’s variable climate.
The charred Douglas Fir provides natural resistance to insects and weather, while the oiled Spruce adds warmth and highlights the wood grain, ageing gracefully over time. Together, they create a facade that’s not only striking in appearance but also engineered for resilience.
